Chapter 4: Curriculum and Content

4.0 Curriculum and Content

The Curriculum and Courseware is designed based on the National Occupational Standards (NOS) developed by respective Sector Skill Councils (SSCs). PSSCIVE has the mandate to prepare the curriculum and courseware for each trade. The Automobile content has been developed by PSSCIVE along with Automotive Skill Development Council (ASDC), Security by PSSCIVE along with Security Knowledge and Skill Development Council (SKSDC), Retail has been developed by CBSE, and IT/ITes by Wadhwani Foundation (WF).
Validating the Curriculum with the SSC in each and every phase of the development was the part of the curriculum design. Facilitators’ handbook, lesson plans, equipment list, students workbook, Assessment methodology, CDs were the part of the curriculum and courseware package.
The courseware can be downloaded from the PSSCIVE website: The link for downloading it is: http://www.psscive.nic.in

4.1 Qualification Pack (QP)

A set of NOS, aligned to a job role, called Qualification Pack, would be available for every job role in each industry sector. These drive both the creation of curriculum, and assessments. Thus NSQF will theoretically make it possible to drive competency based training for every job role in industry.

4.2National Occupational Standards (NOS)

National Occupational Standards (NOS) specify the standard of performance an individual must achieve when carrying out a function in the workplace, together with the knowledge and understanding they need to meet that standard consistently. Essentially NOS are benchmarks of good practice.

Each NOS defines one key function in a job role. Each NOS must be a concise and readable document, usually consisting of no more than five or six pages (some are only one or two). In their essential form, NOS describe functions, standards of performance and knowledge/understanding.

The NOS are laid down by employers (through their SSCs).
